2011 Grand Cherokee drives into the luxury market, but doesn't forget where it came from, edmunds.com, Dec. 10

o Darn it all, if the 2011 Jeep® Grand Cherokee isn't a pretty solid shot at an ever-narrowing slice of the market: A crossover with premium attributes and refinement, yet still oriented toward off-road capability, edmunds.com said. The 2011 Grand Cherokee rides with a supple solidity in just about every situation, edmunds.com said. It remains an off-road vehicle at heart, at the same time, this is clearly a more refined package on the road than ever before, the review said. "If you're looking for a utility vehicle that takes the 'utility' moniker seriously and can play hard, yet still provide better-than-average comfort, then the Grand Cherokee is one of the few SUVs or crossovers that can measure up to such a demanding assignment," edmunds.com said.

First Test: 2011 Dodge Durango, Motor Trend, Dec. 8

The Durango now claims best-in-class towing with the V-6 pulling an impressive 6200 pounds and the V-8 hauling 7400 pounds, Motor Trend said. Moreover, with 10-percent-stiffer springs and shocks than its Jeep Grand Cherokee twin, the Durango shines on city streets or back roads, achieving higher g's on the skid pad and faster figure eight times than the Jeep, regardless of engine or powertrain, the magazine said. In the real world, the Durango is very easy to drive, thanks especially to its impressively small turning circle, the magazine said. Even with its tighter, sedan-like handling, the ride is still smooth and compliant, the article said. Inside the cabin, it's been completely redesigned with higher-quality materials, tighter panel gaps, and fewer seams, the article said. The result is impressive, with comfortable seats, good visibility, improved ergonomics, and a vastly improved Garmin-based navigation system, Motor Trend said. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/suvs/1011_2011_dodge_durango_test/specs.html#ixzz17WAeY6ZY

2011 Dodge Durango: Recipe for a comeback?, Fortune, Dec. 7

o With a revised look and feel, the handsome 2011 Dodge Durango could be the harbinger of a very big year for Dodge, and for Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne, Fortune magazine said. This is an exceptionally handsome vehicle in a segment not known for its good looks, Fortune said. The interior has also been smartly redone -- the speedometer and tachometer dials look particularly sharp and a nice one-piece plastic cover for the dash replaces the usual jigsaw of individual pieces, the magazine said. The Durango feels fully developed and thought out, the magazine said. The Durango doesn't set any benchmarks, but it makes Chrysler competitive in a segment where it hasn't been before. And it makes you look forward to seeing what else Marchionne has up his sleeve for Dodge, Fortune said.

2011 Dodge Journey - first drive review, Car and Driver.com, Dec. 7

o Dodge focused less on the Journey?s styling and more on its interior and chassis, Car and Driver.com said. And so the exterior changes are minimal: Open any door, however, and the Journey is virtually unrecognizable, the website said. With the prior model?s most loathsome interior characteristics banished, the Journey?s innately sensible traits ? the comfortably elevated seating position, standard under-floor bins in the second row, and reasonable space for the occasional carpool in three-row form ? are vastly more appreciable. Three years after its introduction, the Journey is finally the crossover it should have been all along, car and Driver.com said.
